Eczema Explained

Eczema is a variety of skin conditions that affect people of all ages. Eczema can be present in infants, as well as the elderly. Eczema can be present at any location on the body. It can vary from a very mild case to an extremely severe case. For adults, eczema need not be present previously to develop the condition. Eczema can develop at anytime during a person’s lifetime. It can wax and wane through a person’s lifetime. In this article, we will review the condition of eczema.

The presence of eczema can usually be defined by dry skin that exhibits a rough texture. The texture of eczema can be generally rough, or scaly. In some cases, the person with eczema can develop rough patches of irritated skin on the body that is very thick. If the person with eczema allows himself or herself to scratch the area that is irritated, the skin may start to be covered with a wet fluid, or it may even start to show traces of blood.

For people with eczema, itching may be a sign of the condition. For many people, the itching is mild and not a real bother. In other people, however, the itching may make a person miserable. It is advised that a person do not scratch the area that is itching, though this may be hard. There are many prescriptions that can be given to patients of eczema that help to alleviate the symptoms of itching. There are also numerous over-the-counter medications that help to soothe the symptoms of itching in eczema patients.

Many people who battle eczema also battle redness throughout the body. For many, the redness is very mild and not noticeable. For others, the redness can be quite noticeable and even embarrassing. Some patients of eczema can even have on and off bouts of redness. It is important to note that many things may irritate the redness that a person experiences with eczema. Those things may include heat, exercise, and bathing or showering in hot water. If you wish to alleviate the symptoms of redness on the body due to eczema, you should ensure that you stay cool, pace your exercise routine, and bathe or shower in warm to cool water.

Extremely dry skin is another common characteristic of eczema. When your skin dries out, it can be very uncomfortable and painful. It is important to keep your skin as moist as possible with lotions, creams, and other moisturizers. Doctors will usually prescribe a medicated moisturizer for people who suffer with this symptom of eczema. Many people do not realize that dryness that your skin may experience can cause your skin to become ineffective towards the elements of weather, keeping out bacteria, and retaining important fluids that the body needs. If you have dry skin with eczema, it is important to find a resolution or something to soothe the symptom as soon as possible.

Eczema can be a very uncomfortable condition. The skin is necessary to our body, and should be cared for properly. If you have eczema, you should ensure that you follow the orders of your doctor and take all medication as prescribed.
