Understanding Eczema Triggers
Eczema is a very common, yet uncomfortable condition, for millions of people in the world. Experiencing a flare-up of eczema can be extremely challenging. There are numerous things, called “triggers” that can induce an eczema flare-up. In this article, we will review some of the most common eczema triggers. If you have eczema, it is important that you discuss treatment options with your primary physician. There are many medications that you can get by prescription and over-the-counter- that is sure to help you with the symptoms of eczema.
One of the main triggers of eczema has been found in temperature. People with eczema seem to suffer terribly from their condition if they are in either extreme of temperature – hot or cold. Additionally, humidity has been found to play a vital role in flare-ups of eczema. You should ensure that you are at a comfortable temperature. Most people agree that temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees are ideal for the eczema sufferer.
Being around pets and animals in general, may induce a flare-up with the eczema sufferer. If you have pets in or around your home, workplace, school, and/or other places that you frequent, you may consider reducing your exposure to those places. You should avoid places that have pets for approximately a week. This will be able to tell you whether the pet is causing the flare-up or not. If you are only around your own pets, you may consider moving them outside or to a friend or relatives house just to see if your symptoms improve.
Certain types of material that clothes are made of may induce the symptoms of eczema. It is important to try to wear materials like cotton instead of rough clothing materials. Try to avoid clothing that is made of rough material. You should ensure that you wear clothing that is made up of soft and smooth material. This will ensure that the eczema is not irritated and does not cause a flare-up of symptoms.
If you wear perfume, cologne, or use powder on your body, you may want to discontinue use to see if your symptoms of eczema go away. It has been found that people with eczema that use these products stand a higher chance of experiencing a flare-up than those people who do not use these products. The chemicals that are used in these products, especially the alcohol, can have a detrimental effect on people with eczema. If you want to continue the use of these products, pay special attention to the chemicals that are in the product.
If you have eczema, you should pay special attention to the soap products that you use to wash with, wash clothes with, and wash dishes with. Certain soap products may result in a flare-up of eczema. Try to avoid using a lot of products like bubble baths, and other chemical based products. If you have a severe case of eczema, you may consider wearing gloves and protective clothing when dealing with items that have a chemical base. These items include, but are not limited to, dishwashing liquid and other types of cleaners.
These are just a few of the types of triggers that may cause a flare-up of eczema. If you feel that something else may be causing a flare-up, be sure to discontinue use to see if the eczema goes away. If it does, avoid using that product, or find an alternative to that product.
